& This

& This

It's been a couple months since I last touched base with you. Time is just so wild these days, stretching and bending and twisting and arching like the craziest yoga pose ever…Anyway, it’s good to be writing to you tonight.

So, I learned something really cool that I wanted to share with you!

I've always loved the ampersand symbol & I have a fond memory of my friend Carissa Ackerman teaching me how to draw it in the 4th grade :) I just read about its origin & love it even more! The ampersand used to follow "Z" in the modern English alphabet, meaning "and, per se, and” or “and, by itself, and" as an invitation to "transgress the finality of alphabetical order."

From Bayo Akomolafe:

"Ampersand said, "the end...and then some more." Ampersand said, "there's a world beyond language, beyond that which can be expressed." The symbol, &, resembling the infinity sign, seemed to point to the embarrassing extravagance of a material world that spills beyond the rational and linguistic imperatives of our lips, of expression, of intelligibility, of names and identities and categories. Instead of a full stop, an ellipsis, a superfluous dot-dot-dot to signal the ongoingness of things."

Here’s what I get from feeling into the symbology. of &… There’s something more beyond what we can figure out. Nobody really knows what’s fully going on or how it’s all going to turn out… &, it’s potent, especially when I allow my mind to just give up for a bit, drop into my heart & trust in the ongoingness of things.

Astrologically, we are right in the midst of Lughnasadh, the gateway to Autumn, a time to recognize & honor the good & hard times that have brought us to where we are now. Also, this Saturday is Lion’s Gate - a star portal that happens each year on 8/8. Lion’s Gate is a deep cellular-stellar activation of divine love, light, wisdom and power.

The Deep Peace Practice this week will help help you pause for a moment in the chaos of reorganization and connect with your heart.

Lydia Hwang & I are guiding a Deep Peace practice most Wednesdays at 4:30pm PDT. Deep Peace is an integration of sound healing, mudras, breath & restorative postures for healing. Register and join us from the sanctuary of your own home (you’ll also see other classes that we’re broadcasting live from Bend Wellness Center):
