Dare to Live in Grace

(inspired by Paul Muller Ortega’s meditation teaching, “Dare to Choose!” posted on 6/26/20)

Reflect for a moment. Look to those points along the path of life where the road diverges and choice opens up. Choice, it is a gift and a responsibility.

What do we base our choices on? How do we know we are making the best choice?

Paul Muller Ortega teaches that choice along the sacred path is “stirred and impelled by grace, itself.” Grace is that great mystery inside us, a force that compels us forward in life, urging us in a new direction, perhaps not yet mapped out or cleared of fallen trees and shrubs.

Suddenly, all our plans fall away and a new pattern emerges. We turn away from expectations and demands of others. We choose a non ordinary way of living and we very likely will be misunderstood, even harshly judged by those who choose to continue to walk the common path.

What is that moment when the heart thrills, brightens and turns towards that which is daring, different, utterly unknown? It is a moment of courage and clarity. Have you experienced such a moment? When and in what way? The stirring is likely familiar, something you’ve felt before, yet each time it gets stronger, louder, more urgent.

There is always a choice. The known way that is expected and generally accepted? Or the unknown way that thrills and brightens, frightens and challenges, leading to who knows where?

Do not simply continue plodding along the way you always have just because it is familiar and comfortable, though quite unsatisfactory. Is this a life? Dare yourself to choose differently. Look to the mysterious and fascinating. Open to the profound infusion of grace, freedom, expansion and release. Listen to that something else, “a benevolent siren voice to higher destiny.”
