Ending Racism
Friends. Family. Community...
This message is a bit different than ones I’ve shared before. It is a true call to action in times when it can be so hard to even know what to do or what to say or even what to think. I can honestly say that it provided a light of hope to draw me out of despair.
My heart feels both full of hope and heavy with responsibility to do my part in the CHANGE as the sun sets on this historic day. Today is the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington where MLK gave his “I Have a Dream” speech.
My soul brother and colleague Justin Michael Williams writes:
“We the people…
We still have a dream.
But we are the vessel for the dreams our ancestors were unable to dream.”
You know how much power I place in the power of dreams. This is a living dream, a dream that can come true in our lifetime. This is a dream with a message that unites us beyond shame, beliefs or politics. Ending Racism.
If I can encourage you to do one thing today, please take a moment to read the full article (it takes about 16 minutes): Ending Racism: How to Change the World in One Generation.
I hope the articles touches you deeply and ignites something in your spirit the same way it did mine. I was crying while I read it and then crying even more when I listened to Justin’s song, The Turning (linked at the end of the article).
After you read, and if you feel aligned, please join me by signing the pledge at the end.
57 years ago today, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. didn’t just talk about what we were fighting AGAINST, but also united us in a beautiful vision of what we were moving TOWARD.
“Let us not wallow in the valley of despair… so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal.” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today, thanks to those who came before us, we have a new dream. A dream to not just talk “about” racism—but to end it.
Again, here’s the full article. Be sure to sign The Pledge at the end. And let’s pass this along to all those who are in need!
I hope you will join me.
May we be the change we seek,
Jennifer
