Gayatri Mantra

Now is the time to welcome in more and more practices that cultivate the Golden Light of the Soul through all levels of our being - through movement, prayer, ritual, mudra, mantra, dreamwork, and sacred activism. In this light, the darkness flees. In this light, inspiration dawns and joy ignites. In this light, we come together and heal. In chanting the Gayatri, we offer our gratitude to that Golden light.

The Gayatri mantra reminds me of Hafiz’s poem: “Even after all this time, the Sun never says to the Earth, “You owe me.” Look what happens with a love like that. It lights up the entire sky.” We open to being infused with that light through our entire being. We invite more occasions of generosity and non-judgment as we emulate the Sun, shining on everyone and everything. We can love like that.

Here’s the Gayatri Mantra in Sanskrit:

Om bhur bhuvah svah tat savitur varenyam bhargo devasya dhimahi dhiyo yo nah prachodayat.

Translation by Douglas Brooks:

“The eternal, earth, air, heaven That glory, that resplendence of the sun
May we contemplate the brilliance of that light
May the sun inspire our minds.”

So, truly, Gayatri is a perfect mantra for the Summer Solstice - calling down the brilliance of the Sun into our innermost being.

May you anchor, align and arise with the Golden Radiance of your Soul. May the radiance of the golden light shine upon you, supporting and blessing you in all that you love. And may you know the fullness of truth and beauty in your own soul.
